Dear Family,

Now that all the Christmas decorations are put away, gifts are exchanged, and the bills are paid, it is time to focus on the 2007 Sirney Family Reunion.

For your relaxing, family friendly reunion, we have chosen the Buccaneer Beach Resort on the beautiful and pristine Jekyll Island, which is off the coast of Brunswick, Georgia. The island is connected to Brunswick by a causeway and there is a $3.00 charge to enter the island. You have your choice of airports and I suggest that you check them out for price. There is an airport in Brunswick and I know that Delta flies in and out of there several times a day. Savannah, GA and Jacksonville, FL are options, however Jacksonville is the biggest and closest of the two and a straight shot north on I95.  From Jacksonville airport to Jekyll Island is approximately an hour and from Savannah approximately an hour and a half. There is also Atlanta, GA about three hours and Charleston, SC about the same time as Atlanta.

This year we are asking that each family appoint one person from each of the original 10 siblings to write a short and informative history about your family for the last two years since the 2005 reunion. Please either mail or e-mail (ctatum0110@aol.com) these to me by May 31st. We will put them in booklet form, starting a written history of our family. Judy and Jim Shelton have done a wonderful and thankless job of compiling, and keeping up to date the Sirney family statistics, addresses and phone numbers. Peggy Simmons researched and wrote a history about the family’s early years. From this reunion forward we will have a written history. KEEP IT SHORT.

In an effort to save some trees and money we are asking everyone with computers to receive all additional information about the reunion from our web site www.sirneyfamily.com. Jeff Klinzing is the creator and web master. He has done an incredible job and deserves our thanks and appreciation. This too is a thankless job. We will be posting all sign ups for activities, meals, etc. on the web site. We are in effect using an e-invite. If you have not already done so please send an e-mail to Jeff so he can capture your e-mail address. His address is jklinzing@surewest.net. If you don’t have a computer or would rather have your information via mail, please return the enclosed postcard to me.

Jekyll Island is quiet with a lot of history and miles of beaches. It has five golf courses and the Buccaneer has discount tickets for $45.00 for 18 holes and cart. You can rent bikes, and horses. There is also a dolphin viewing boat tour. The historical district is a must to tour. Jekyll was once the exclusive playground for the rich and famous. Many of their homes are open to the public.  We suggest lunch or dinner at the Jekyll Island Club restaurant, if you can fit it in. Reservations are recommended for dinner; jackets for gentlemen are preferred. Dinner is pricey and would not be enjoyable for youngsters. For kids of all ages they have a wonderful water park called Summer Waves. We have included information about the park. The Buccaneer’s pool is small but it is right off the beach.  If you are looking for more excitement than the island has, there is Brunswick and the famous neighboring St. Simon’s Island, both with lots of traffic and wonderful shopping. Savannah is to the north and Fernandina Beach to the south, both full of history. We think that there is enough to keep everyone as busy or as relaxed as they wish to be.

We will have our usual Saturday evening dinner and business meeting and Sunday brunch, or cookout. We would like to accommodate as many family members on Sunday as we can, so we may choose brunch so folks can catch planes or get on the road at a reasonable hour. Let me hear what you think.

There are 28 rooms already booked, with Gloria and Ron Sirney first to make their reservations. We have also received word that we are going to see some relatives that we haven’t seen in a while. We are very excited. If you have not attended a reunion before please try to make this one. As we age we realize what a great opportunity it is to introduce the new generations to our wonderful family and share memories and experiences. I personally have a much deeper regard and affection for all my family since my Mothers death. How great it has been to hear all the memories about her. Please don’t let this opportunity pass you by.

We would like to take this opportunity to offer our sincere thanks and appreciation for all of you who have gone before us in planning a reunion. They have all been better than fabulous. You don’t realize until you start planning, that you are going to feel a deep responsibility for every family members, comfort, safety, pocket book and general well being. But don’t let me scare you off from hosting a reunion. There are great rewards in seeing the family together. Let’s see that every family is represented this year. In the past we have sadly been missing representation from one to two families.

With Lots of Love, your 2007 reunion committee,
